Bismillah

Lefke/Cyprus

As Sheikh Mustafa has told us, a local brother has come to us to make a complaint about Hajji Eyûb, who has put the «Jewish sign» at his house. And I remembered, that some days before I have seen him happily and with a shining face engraving this symbol into the fwooden frame at both sides of the door of his house. Mâ shâ Llâh!

Mustafa was able to calm that exited brother, explaining that this famous star originally does not come from the Jews but comes from Sayyidin Sulaiman, alaihi salam, as the famous «Seal of Sulaiman» and is deeply rooted in the muslim tradition, as the following examples will illustrate. A good reason to put this star on your house or at its front door is that it – as Sheikh Efendi said last week – will give protection against jinn.

Whoever believes, that the so called «Yellow Star» is a symbol of the Jews, is not well informed, as this star for a long time is familiar to muslims. This can be illustrated for instance by an old turkish healing bowl which shows quránic texts in Arabic letters. It also has in a central position just this star, inside of which is engraved الله حق . This means: Allah is the Real, the Truth.

These kinds of bowls were used in royal houses and gave protection to the house. That you find that star and an arabic inscription in the same place, is in itself an obvious proof, that in ancient times people understood the hexagonal star as an islamic symbol. You can find this symbol on an old ottoman signet ring, and at the famous Hala Sultan Tekke in Larnaca in Cyprus. Here there are at least seven examples of this star.

This almorawian clay seal from the 11./ 12. century (Almeria, Museo Arqueologico) with the star for instance would have been used in certifying documents.
